Basic Concepts

It is well established that basic vocabulary is imperative for school success. Some schools have implemented universal screening for basic concepts for pre-k and kindergarten students. This initiative is often lead by the speech-language pathologist. Some schools have used the BOEHM for this purpose.

Grammar / Morphology

Morphology is one of the most prominent markers of language difficulties. Some schools have implemented universal screening for morphology of kindergarten students. This initiative is often lead by the speech-language pathologist (SLP). The SLP worked with teachers to use recasts. This simple strategy resulted in amelioration of most of the difficulties. The assessment tool used by some is the SPELT.
